TechPlomacy Team Leader

Are you interested in how technologies are shaping our foreign and security policies? Do you wish to represent Denmark to the tech and cyber industries in Silicon Valley? And are you a strong team player capable of managing your own portfolio, while driving internal processes and providing guidance to a dedicated TechPlomacy team? Then perhaps you are our new TechPlomacy Team Leader. 

At the Office of the Tech Ambassador of Denmark at the Consulate General in Silicon Valley, we are now looking for a new colleague to join the TechPlomacy team. The Office of Denmark's Tech Ambassador has a global mandate to engage proactively on the main opportunities and risks of emerging technologies with a presence in both Silicon Valley and Copenhagen.

As a member of the Silicon Valley team, you will report directly to the Tech Ambassador (Copenhagen) and the Deputy Tech Ambassador (Silicon Valley). The TechPlomacy team operates in a dynamic and fast-paced office across time zones, which necessitates a Team Leader with strong team player skills and the ability to juggle multiple tasks and responsibilities simultaneously.

 About the Role:

The Team Leader will support a team of dedicated advisors prioritize and provide guidance on assignments, helping ensure high quality in projects and written products, and providing guidance on how to solve tasks efficiently and in a timely manner. The Team Leader will support team members in succeeding with their portfolio and provide strategic input to the team’s work. With the launch of a new strategy for Denmark’s tech diplomacy, the Team Leader will translate the four strategic priorities into concrete work streams and specific activities in close cooperation with the Management team. For the team in Silicon Valley, delivering on the diplomatic dialogue with the leading tech industry on a responsible technological development is of key importance, and the Teamleader will coordinate these efforts across the team as well as be an integral, active part of it too. The Team Leader will also coordinate internal processes and handle organizational matters. Finally, the Team Leader will also have their own technology topic to cover, including providing analyses, leading specific projects, and building our Techplomacy’s network in the field. The technology topic will be determined depending on the Team Leaders experience and skills, as well as vis-à-vis the rest of the TechPlomacy team. 

 

Main Tasks and Responsibilities:

Specific tasks include, but are not limited to:

  • Leading a very capable and highly specialized team by providing support with prioritization of tasks and ensuring the quality and timeliness of products in response to work plans, strategies, and instructions and hearings from Copenhagen;
  • Developing and managing work streams and activities to ensure adequate implementation of the new TechPlomacy strategy [to be launched on March 14th, 2024];
  • Coaching and supporting team members in their professional development
  • Coordinating internal processes and handling organizational matters within administration, HR and internal strategic planning across the team;
  • Actively contributing to information gathering, analysis and reporting on a prioritized, technology topic in Danish on a regular basis to relevant stakeholders;
  • Building and maintaining a multi-stakeholder network comprised of multinational tech and cyber companies, think tanks, civil society and academia;
  • Planning and executing meetings, high-level events, and delegations, including ministerial visits and public appearances for the Tech Ambassador.

     

    Required Qualifications:

  • At least 5 years of relevant work experience, ideally within technology, policy, security or international relations issues;
  • Strong interpersonal and networking skills;
  • Leadership experience with a keen interest in people management and the ability to provide a positive, pleasant and engaging work environment
  • Excellent communication skills – oral as well as written;
  • A strong sense of responsibility and proactivity;
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, while creating a good working environment across the team.

     

    Desired Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark.

 

Employment Conditions:

  • You will be offered full time employment for 2 years with the possibility of extension as a mission-employed staff.
  • You will be employed with a work week of – on average – 37 hours, but you are employed without an upper working hours’ limit.
  • You will be entitled to 5 weeks (25 working days) of paid vacation days per year.
  • As part of your salary, you will be covered by a workplace pension scheme. 
  • You will be offered health coverage, which includes your spouse/partner as well as children under the age of 26, if applicable.
