Contributed to putting responsible technology on the agenda of the UN Human Rights Council.
One of the defining challenges of our time is updating what it means to protect and promote human rights in an increasingly online world. Addressing this evolving challenge, Denmark is committed to ensuring the protection and promotion of these rights online. The modern notion of Human Rights is borne out of the United Nations, and one of the most central arenas for the struggle for Human Rights in the 21st century is the UN Human Rights Council (UN HRC).
Key Achievements & Results
- Multilateral Contributions: Actively contributed to integrating technology considerations into the UN Human Rights Council’s agenda, emphasizing the responsible use of technology in its functions.
- New Resolution: Led a resolution on Human Rights and New Technologies (number 47/23), successfully adopted by the UN HRC in 2021. This resolution highlighted the potential of digital technologies to enhance democratic institutions, civil society resilience, civic engagement, and the open exchange of ideas. - Dialogue on Data: Hosted an event during the 48th session of the UN HRC titled Leveraging Data for Accountability, focusing on the strategic use of data to support human rights initiatives.
