Contributed to international cooperation with social media companies on countering malign influence

With recent technological developments, digital tools can increasingly be used to weaponize information and undermine the reliability, accuracy and trustworthiness of the information ecosystem. The rapid development of generative artificial intelligence in particular, has lowered the cost and increased the ease with which large amounts of multimodal content can be generated. The threats and challenges to the online information ecosystem present significant concerns, impacting the integrity of information essential for the functioning of societies, democracies, and financial markets.

Key Achievements andResults

·         Support for Ukrainian Civil Society: Following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Denmark organized a series of closed-doors meetings with International Media Support (IMS) for Ukrainian government representatives, civil society, and key tech companies to address Russian disinformation efforts. To this end, Denmark leveraged the multistakeholder Tech for Democracy platform to convene stakeholders that were committed to address the pressing challenges that Ukraine was – and still is – facing.

·         Task Force on Information Integrity: Through the Task Force on Information Integrity in the Freedom Online Coalition, Denmark has spearheaded efforts to address misinformation, disinformation, and foreign information manipulation, aiming to cultivate an ecosystem of accurate, trustworthy information.
